Now that the holiday shopping season is in full swing, eBay and PayPal are seeing positive results from many deep discount offers and optimized ways to give – and get – the perfect gifts . PayPal has announced its Black Friday shopping results, which featured a 27 percent increase in total payment volume compared to last year, and eBay experienced increased sales as well as double the amount of Black Friday sales in the U.S. from its mobile applications. eBay also announced that U.S. mobile commerce sales jumped 146 percent on Cyber Monday, compared to the same day last year. Many media outlets took note of the outstanding results, includingTechCrunch and PCMag.
“The tough economy has made shoppers more price-conscious, and this year’s Black Friday results show that they’re going online to find the best deals,” said Amanda Pires, Senior Director at PayPal. “With the convenience of shopping from a laptop or mobile phone, more people are choosing to avoid the long lines, parking chaos and early morning rush in exchange for great online deals available from the comfort of their homes.”
As reported by Coremetrics researchers, the online retail sector as a whole saw sales up a healthy 15.9 percent for Black Friday this year, with consumers pushing the average order value (AOV) up from $170.19 to $190.80 for an increase of 12.1 percent. The overall numbers, and the particularly excellent results seen by eBay and PayPal, point to a very healthy online shopping season.
