
As SVP of Platform for eBay Inc. and CTO of Marketplaces, Mark Carges is responsible for accelerating the company's platform innovation. He is also responsible for overseeing the technology architecture, software development and site operations for eBay.com.
Prior to joining eBay in September 2008, Mark was executive vice president, products and general manager, for the Business Interaction Division at
BEA Systems, a provider of enterprise application infrastructure software that was acquired by Oracle in April 2008. During more than a decade at BEA, Mark held a variety of other senior technology leadership roles, including Chief Technology Officer.
Mark began his career at
Bell Labs as one of the original architects of Tuxedo, software for constructing highly scalable transaction processing applications. Prior to BEA, he designed and developed early versions of Tuxedo at
Bell Labs,
Unix System Labs and
Novell.
Mark holds a BA in Computer Science from the
University of California at Berkeley and an MS degree in Computer Science from
New York University.
